Optional ways to get to Hervey Bay.

Driving

Hervey Bay lies approximately 3.5-4 hours north of Brisbane. Take the Bruce Highway north through Gympie to Maryborough before taking the turn off for Hervey Bay just after the gas station. Half an hour from Maryborough sits Hervey Bay on the coast.

Roads are well signposted and are easy to follow.

Flying

A short 50 minute flight from Brisbane, the flight to Hervey Bay is very scenic and quick. As you come in to land you circle over K’gari and have a chance to take in the stunning view.

Flights in and out of Hervey Bay operate daily with three flights on Qantas operating morning, midday and afternoon. Cost is around $200 one way, so this is one of the more pricey, but fast, options.

Train

From Brisbane there are a couple of options for trains.

• The Tilt Train runs from Roma Street Station in Brisbane to Bundaberg and Rockhampton. It takes roughly 3.5-4 hours from Brisbane to reach Maryborough-West train station and costs around $54 one way. See the link to check out timetables and booking.
• The Spirit of Queensland also travels from Brisbane through to Cairns and stops at Maryborough along the way. See the link for more information.

Wide Bay transport offers a bus service from Maryborough-West station to Hervey Bay. See the link for more information. Alternatively, Greyhound buses also offer a transfer to Hervey Bay.

GETTING TO ROMA STREET FROM THE AIRPORT

Coming out of either the domestic terminal or the international terminal you can catch the Airtrain to other points around Brisbane city and the Gold Coast. See their website here for more information.

Both the domestic and international terminals have a train station that is easily accessed.

From the Domestic terminal simply follow the signs at the airport. The train is straight outside, across the road and up the stairs. You can buy your ticket from the ticket office or the machines. The map is on the wall and the attendants are very helpful and knowledgeable.

From the International terminal it is the same idea. Follow the train signs. You will need to go up to Level 3 to walk over the bridge to it.

Once on the train head towards the Gold Coast. It takes about 30 minutes to get to Roma Street.

Bus

Greyhound Australia runs a bus service from Brisbane to Maryborough which takes roughly 5 hours.
